THE ROYAL MINT EXPERIENCE
Since 2016, we have been welcoming groups to The Royal Mint. We have become one of the top-rated tourist attractions in South Wales, winning many awards along the way.
Our guided tours will give you and your party unprecedented access to The Royal Mint and its history. Go behind the scenes to discover a whole world of coinage and experience history.
You will gain and insight into the beginning of The Royal Mint, Heritage behind our values and the craftsmanship that goes in to creating the coins in your pocket.
Your group will hear all about the manufacturing process and methods that goes in to making some of the most secure coins in the world. Your dedicated host will guide you to parts of The Royal Mint that are only accessible on our tours, your group will be able to witness first hand our workforce producing coins for anyone of 60 countries we are minting for.
You will also learn all about the state of the art equipment that helps us and the process of creating a coin.
Strike Your Own Coin
During the tour, your group will be given the opportunity to strike their own coin and take home with them.
The Royal Mint is the only place in the UK where you can do this.
The design will depend on what theme we are celebrating at the time of the visit. In the past people have had the opportunity to strike a rare 2018 Sir Isaac Newton 50p

Join us as we take you on a journey through the ages, looking at how coins are made, how they were first produced, the involvement of Sir Isaac Newton as Master of the Mint, the commemorative medal produced for Elizabeth I.
Explore the origins of The Royal Mint alongside our 1,100-year history, our links with The Tower of London, and the story behind our move to Wales.
Our Exhibition takes you back to the 9th century with a look at some of our oldest and most notable objects, beginning with a Silver Penny of Alfred the Great, struck at the time of the resettlement of London after its occupation by the Vikings.
There is a lot more to The Royal Mint than just coins.
