Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens is described as 'The Finest Woodland Gardens in England'. First planted in 1801, the Grade I listed gardens set within the historic 240-acre estate feature outstanding scenery throughout the year.
Groups can enjoy peaceful walks through the woodland gardens which boast impressive features, including several scarce trees and shrubs.
The gardens are famed for outstanding displays of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, magnolias, bluebells and the beautiful Victorian Pulham rock garden.
There are numerous walks to explore throughout the 240-acres of Grade I Listed Gardens, parkland, lawns and forest areas, with an abundance of fascinating fauna as well as flora. Groups can see a rare colony of wallabies introduced in 1889, as well as several species of deer and other extraordinary wildlife including badgers, weasels, stoats, shews, voles, and the giant carp in the lakes.
Leonardslee House
Set in the heart of the estate lies Leonardslee House. The breath-taking and serene historic 19th-century Italianate style house sits on top of a valley with a panoramic view of the gardens and is home to Michelin-star Restaurant Interlude, Afternoon Tea at Leonardslee House and the new Art Gallery that is part of the Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens Sculpture Park and Art Gallery that will launch later this year.
Groups are invited to savour culinary delights when choosing the sparkling, savoury, classic afternoon tea or the Estate dining experience from Restaurant Interlude.
The UK’s first Pinotage Vineyards
In 2018, the first commercial Pinotage vines were planted in the UK at Leonardslee and whilst our vines mature, groups can explore the world of wine pairing with our six wine tasting experiences from our sister estate, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in South Africa. Their award-winning wines can be sampled throughout the year and offer experiences such as the Ultimate Leonardslee and Sabrage Experience.
Events
Groups receive exclusive discounts to a number of our events including the sell-out Leonardslee Illuminated, a spectacular winter trail filled with spellbinding illuminations, large scale projections, music and theatrical performances.
Sculpture Park & Art Gallery
July will see the launch of one of the largest sculpture parks and exhibitions in Europe in 2021. The event results from the collaboration between Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens and renowned South African sculptor, Anton Smit.
The beautiful woodland gardens will become home to Anton’s sculptures in an exhibition entitled ‘The Walk of Life’.
The event showcases the artist’s contemporary sculptures and life works. This includes several monumental pieces, in harmony with the woodland gardens.
Viewing of the sculpture park is included in garden entry.
