The attraction which charts the history of Britain’s golden years of car design and manufacturing through more than 140 cars.
Within the collection visitors will find fondly remembered cars like the Austin Seven, Morris Minor, classic Mini, Ford Escort and many other long-lost marques and models which evoke memories of a bygone age.
Daily Mail journalist Robert Hardman describes Great British Car Journey as “certainly not your average motor museum. You won't find the earliest cars or the fastest cars. Rather, you will find the car that your parents or grandparents drove; the car in which you endured those interminable holiday trips (if, indeed, you ever got there at all); the car in which you were sick out of the window; the car that taught you to drive.
“From the Capri, the Metro and the Cortina to the Princess, the Scimitar, the Sunbeam and the Imp, these are the cars which generations of British men might spend all weekend washing and waxing; the cars which British teenagers might 'borrow' for a first date or to impress their friends.
This is the social history of modern Britain on four wheels, told through brands such as Morris, Rover, Humber and Daimler.”
There are also a number of cars within the collection which boast ‘special stories’, be it former owners (Lord Baden Powell and Elton John) or fascinating tales of how the car was developed. There is something to intrigue and interest everyone, whether a car nut or not!
There is also the opportunity to have a truly immersible visit to Great British Car Journey with the addition of a Drive Dad’s Car experience, best described by Octane Magazine…
“Every museum needs an edge, but few allow you to drive the exhibits. That’s one of the unique selling points of a new museum, Great British Car Journey.”
Drive Dad’s Car is a unique driving experience that gives visitors, who hold a full UK driving licence, the opportunity to drive a classic British car.
Accompanied by an instructor, visitors can get behind the wheel of more than 35 cars – including an Austin Seven, Morris Minor, Ford Capri, classic Mini and even a luxury Rolls-Royce and Daimler - and enjoy a drive on our private road on site. There’s even a Reliant Robin in the collection!
There are also regular special events and exhibitions throughout the year, including DeLorean Day and the Great British Motorsport event.
