Ellen Smith since 1900

Ellen Gilson & Lund Smith lived on farms opposite each other, high on the moors above Oxenhope. They met and fell in love. Their families weren’t happy so Ellen and Lund eloped to Littleborough where they were married at The Parish Church. In 1900, in addition to his faming interests, Lund Smith began a haulage business and passenger service between Littleborough and Rochdale with horse-drawn wagonettes. One of the earliest long distance passenger adventures was a holiday tour to London, Brighton & Eastbourne in 1920. Ellen Smith vehicles have been a constant feature on the highways & byways of Britain, and often much further afield, ever since.

Today, Ellen Smith Tours do things a little differently to Ellen & Lund, but we have those family values at heart in everything we do. We are well-known for offering quality, value for money day excursions and door-to-door coach holidays in our area and beyond. We have a dedicated Groups Team whose job it is to inspire you with ideas and suggestions. They have the knowledge and expertise to tailor make an itinerary to suit your specific needs, whether they be general or special interest. We use experienced, friendly Tour Drivers and Executive Coaches with onboard facilities.

We already organise group trips for a number of different organisations including Probus, U3A, WI, as well as sports & social clubs and can provide everything from coach, accommodation, meal stops, attraction visits and themed entertainment.
