If you’re looking for unique places to visit with groups, look no further than Rhondda Cynon Taf in South Wales.
Nestled between the Brecon Beacons and Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taf is home to some of the most entertaining venues in the UK. We have history, heritage, culture and more than a touch of adventure all within our very scenic mountains and valleys.
Visit A Welsh Coal Mining Experience at Rhondda Heritage Park Museum and listen as the ex-coal miner tour guides take you underground and tell tales of mining life from an era when coal from the Rhondda Valleys powered the world. Dare you ride DRAM! to the surface? This simulated ride takes you on an exhilarating journey from the pit floor to the surface.
There’s so much more to explore here. Our courtyard has lots of the original mine workings and an Anderson bomb shelter the miners would rush to if the sirens went off.
Inside there are historical artefacts and interactive displays where you can learn about life in the Valleys – how we dressed, the political and social movement, the essential role of women – even how the miners got all that coal off at the end of a shift!
Caffe Bracchi by The Chocolate House is a great place for a pit-stop - and a nod to the bracchis – coffee shops and ice cream parlours – which were opened by Italians who migrated here during coal mining. Many of these bracchis are still open in Rhondda Cynon Taf to this day, run by the descendants of those original migrants.
The Chocolate House is also an award-winning chocolate maker. You can pick up a home-made sweet treat while you are here, or even join a chocolate-making workshop.
We are also proud to be home to Craft of Hearts, a winner of the UK’s best independent craft shop award. Here you can choose from a huge range of craft supplies, paints and more. You can also get involved and join a craft workshop.
Our group tours can be tailored to your needs, we have welcomed guests with live performances of male voice choirs in our lobby, freshly-made Welsh cakes and more.
A Welsh Coal Mining Experience is also part of the unique Coin, Coal and Cheers package for group travel operators. Three of South Wales’ leading attractions have joined forces to create Coin, Coal and Cheers which includes tours at A Welsh Coal Mining Experience, the Royal Mint Experience and Hensol Castle Distillery.
